Funny incident in my childhoodMy mother used to tell of an incident when I was about four years old. Radios in those days had tubes, or valves as our British friends call them, and when a radio was turned on the filaments had to warm up before the tubes did their job, and so there was a half minute of silence before anything came out of the speaker. I apparently turned on the radio, and my Mom said “be careful you don’t break it.” As she finished saying that, the filaments had warmed up, and a man’s voice said “. . . yes, and I’m not going to fix it for you, either.” -Al Girard This page was last updated January 1, 2008. |
