Marriage Statistics

My good friend Jasper James is always trying to show off with his knowledge of current events, and simply loves to buttress his arguments with “objective evidence” in the form of statistics. Yesterday, Jasper came to me with news about marriage in America. He told me that he’d read a report containing statistics indicating that 4,153,237 people got married in 2006.

I said, “Jasper, I’m not trying to start any trouble, but I can’t help wondering… shouldn’t that be an even number?” Jasper fell silent.
